A.Y.A (As You Are)
PITCH: “As you are” explores the emotions that we go through in this precise moment. In a world where everything is fast, love is fleeting and the future is unsureI want to record a small permanent moment.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project was born from profound loneliness when I moved to a new city in undergraduate school. It was difficult to find community, to be sincere, to be honest and open about who I am as a person. It was easiest to have brief moments on conversational intimacy with complete strangers; knowing that I may never see these people again gave me comfort. Having moved to another new city, in an effort to feel less alone, I am committing to taking my camera to the streets and asking people at random the same question. For the first iteration of the project, it is my goal to photograph 100 people in the city of Paris and show that while we may all be strangers, what we are going through: our struggles, our fears, our joy, our pain, our celebration is a community mirror.
My hope is that by photographing people I meet during my time in Paris, I can prove that there is emotional similarity between strangers and ultimately feel less alone.
